Which type of digital SLR camera is best?
I already have a normal digital camera but I’m considering buying a digital SLR camera that’s better for photography than the one I have. I’m not sure what brand to get though… right now i’ve mostly been looking at Canons and Nikons. what brand do you prefer? thanks :)

I prefer DSLR’s which represent the larger systems .. Nikon and Canon
Here is a site where you can compare one brand/model of each.

Enjoy your search. I am sure you will find a couple you like that are in your budget
I have nikon and love it, but either is good. They have different lines for different prices. At the real low end, I would get a canon, at the low to mid I would get the nikon d90 at the higher I would get the canon d7 and at the real high end I would get the nikon D3 Anyway check out Dpreview.com for the true run down
One thing to remember, whatever body you buy, you are now stuck with that line of lenses. IMHO, Nikon has better glass, but canon glass is less expensive, have fun
Both are excellent brands. I am a Nikon user but advise people to find the camera that is best for them. I teach photography and often asked what cameras are best.
Here are 3 models that I recommend people research and consider (including a price range estimate:
Nikon D3000 10MP DSLR Digital Camera with 18-55mm VR Lens - $460 to $480
EOS Rebel XS (1000D) 10MP DSLR Digital Camera Kit w/18-55mm IS Lens - $499 to $525
Pentax K-x 12MP DSLR with 18-55mm Zoom (has HD Video also) - $485 to $525
Below, I listed some links, the first link listed below is to a web page that lists the 3 DSLR cameras I am recommending. This list will let you compare features and specs, also it has links to reviews of the cameras, the reviews include sample images from the cameras. Also I included some links to some dealers so that you can try and get the best price but also has customer reviews of purchases.
Most people go with Nikon or Canon but, I think the Pentax could be of special interest, since it can do HD video and has excellent quality at higher ISO settings which can be useful in low light places and helping get the picture. Pentax also has a long traditional of making quality cameras.
If you have any questions and if you think I can be of help then please do contact me.
Hope this helps. Good luck.

Hey,
How much are you willing to spend?
I prefer Canon, someone else prefers Nikon. This is not the right way to decide which DSLR to buy. Some Canon models are better than some Nikon models, vice versa.
Here is a post called ‘Buying a DSLR, what’s important, what’s not, megapixels, features, brand, price, quality and which DSLRs from 400$+ are good. Here is the post - http://the-digital-photographer.blogspot.com/2009/11/what-dslr-should-i-buy.html
I recommend the Canon EOS XS, XSi, T2i and Nikon D3000, D5000 and D90.
