What is a good Digital SLR Camera for someone just moving into SLR cameras and in the cheaper area?

I have been interested in photography for many years and have finally got to the point where I feel a regular digital camera is holding me back from getting good shots. I am hoping to buy a Digital SLR Camera soon, but I do not know much about them to make an informed decision on which one to buy. There are so many choices. What do you recommend? Hopefully something less than $1000 please.

The price of DSLR went down a lot in the last few year. There are many decent cameras under $1000 range. For a beginner, I would recommend the Canon T1i or Nikon D5000 with lense kit ranging from $700-$800 .The D5000 is slightly better in low light condition. You can even try the Canon XSI or Nikon D3000 for lower prices. Look the the review at dpreview.com before making your decision. good luck!
