What digital SLR camera should a beginner buy?

I want to buy a digital SLR camera, but I am new to photography and don’t know much about them. Are there any websites, cameras, or advice that you can offer me?

If you are new to photography, then start with a bridge camera. I have just got the fujifilm S200EXR and I’m very pleased with it. These cameras offer a lot of the same features that you get with DSLR but have a zoom lense that goes from about 30mm to about 360mm. They are a fraction of the cost of a DSLR but still let you play with aperture/shutter speed/iso settings. Only when you find that you need even more features that you should then upgrade to DSLR.

Nikon D50 and a 50mm f/1.8

Good, basic setup for learning.

I recommend the Canon Rebel XTi with one lens to start - the kit lens is a 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6, and you can get that with the camera for additional cost. They have greatly improved that lens recently. It’s perfect as a starter, with great range perfect for travel, events and even some portraiture.

Good luck with your photography!

CANON or NIKON within your budget BUT make sure the one you pick has AUTOMODE ( you will need to to start with)
