What digital SLR camera between 500-1200 dollars is the best and works well in really low light situations?

I am trying to purchase an entry level digital SLR camera that would be ideal for shooting in low light situations like coffee houses, rock concerts, city streets at night. I have tried out the canon 20d and really liked it, but I was wondering if anyone had any other suggestions, so I can be confident in my future purchase. Does nikon make a DSLR that works well in low light?

go with the canon 30d. nikon, at that level, is just as good but i prefer canon because the lenses are a lot lighter (the motor is in the camera not the lens). Though maybe nikon did finally get that right with its newer cameras, i don’t know. the 30d basically the 20d but with features that 20d users wished they had.

I’ve got the 20D myself- and it’s about as good as they get for low light. Certainly- going the nikon route- like a D80 is also an excellent camera. Or- you might want to check out the Pentax K10D. I love it’s features and modes, has 10Mp and includes image stabilization for that extra edge.

Here- you can pixel peep at ISO1600 images compared between the models:

All DSLR’s work about the same in low light. It depends more on the lens you’re using. For low light situations go with a lens with a low f/ratio. Nikon does sell 50mm f/1.4 and f/1.2 lenses.

I’d go with the Nikon D80, If you want it I saw it on sale at the Ritz Camera site, they also got some promos at http://www.prioritycodes.com/Electronics/RitzCamera.com-Priority-Codes/index.html for a discount
