I am looking for a Digital SLR camera with an easy and fast manual mode/focus. Any recommendations?
I am in love with my old Minolta film SLR. I love the manual settings on it and can take pictures faster and more discretely than any digital camera could ever dream of…or at least as far as I know. I was wondering if anyone knows of a Digital SLR that has a fast and easy to use manual mode. I hate menu diving and I need to be able to control the manual settings quickly. I am a fast paced photographer

All nikon DSLR’s have a manual mode and seperate on-body controls for the aperture and shutter, depending on the model of lens you get you may have an aperture ring if this suits, look for lenses with an AF-D suffix.
The kit lenses all have their apertures controlled via the body.
I am a canon user, but hats off to Nikon in this respect.
Only canons midrange bodies up have a physical on-body seperate control for aperture and shutter (i.e the Quick Control Dial on the 40d 50d, 5d series and 1d series) on the rebel series you need to use the single control dial and the Av button in Aperture priority and Manual modes.
Good luck with the leap, but don’t ditch your old gear, I still have an occasionally use an SR-T303a, nothing quite like it to remind you of the fundamentals of this fabulous hobby of ours.
you want to get a really good lens, one with pressure focus or something like that, and you need a focusing plate that goes in the actual camera body that looks like two half circles
I would suggest NIkon D5000 12.3-megapixel DX-format CMOS image sensor.Outfit includes the 3x AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G VR lens with image stabilization.D-Movie Mode with sound; record 720p HD movie clips.Vari-angle color 2.7-inch LCD monitor; one-button Live View
