Can you use a film slr lens on a new digital slr camera?

I have some old 35 mm slr film lens (nikon) and was wondering if they will fit on a new digital slr camera that’s possibly a canon will they fit and will it work? I put the nikon lens on a
film pentax camera and it worked but idk if it’s different! Help!

If it fits, it will work. They made many new slr’s to fit the old lens for many brands since lens are so expensive. Try it out first on something not important just to be sure that you don’t miss a shot that you can’t get back once missed.

I’m not sure if your old nikons will work on a canon, I know most old 35mm nikons work on newer digital nikons. I’ve used two 35mm lenses with my nikon d60, they work, but you lose AF capability because the d60 does not have an inner focusing motor, neither do the old lenses (alot of new dslr nikon lenses have inner-focusing elements). I would have to know which lenses you have and what your canon model is if i could help you any further.

You must be confused. Theres no way a Nikon lens fit a Pentax body unless an adapter is available and was used. Same goes for a Nikon lens on a Canon body.

I wont say it cant be done but Im not going to check for available adapters. All Im saying is they wont interchange directly.

Yes and no.

If you buy a Nikon camera like the D90 or better, it can use all the old Nikon lenses that are AI as well as all the auto-focus lenses made by Nikon (AF, AF-I and AF-S) but they will only work on Nikon cameras

Any Canon lens older than 1988 will NOT work on a Canon digital SLR

And of course, Pentax k-mount lenses will work on any of their Pentax DSLR’s

Was there any specific questions you had in mind?

You must have some non ai lenses if they fit the Pentax camera. They should work with any of the current Pentax DSLRs.

Since Pentax and Nikon use completely different lens mounts there is no way you could have put a Nikon lens on a Pentax camera body without an adapter.

If you want to use your Nikon lenses on a DSLR then buy a Nikon DSLR.

There is an adapter made to use a Nikon lens on a Canon DSLR body but with no auto focus and you’ll have to use stop-down metering.
